Cover Letters
Cover letters often tend to be ignored but actually play a very important role in fitting your skills and work experience to a given job, because the technique I’ve developed for clients involves deconstruction of the job description which points out what you have that the employer wants and, alternatively, where your weak spots are (and, therefore, how to handle that upfront).
Standard cover letters are a waste of time. I teach clients this deconstruction process as part of mutually creating individualized cover letters. And, once the deconstruction has been done, if a client gets to the interview stage, it can be used in a surprisingly successfully way — to control part of the interview. The type of cover letters I teach clients about also tend to fit their resume to the job and help to eliminate the need to constantly write and re-write ones resume.
